Leap Day 2012!

www.gothicteasociety.com

Happy Leap Day!

February 29 is a date that usually occurs every four years, and is called leap day. This day is added to the calendar in leap years as a corrective measure, because the earth does not orbit around the sun in precisely 365 days.
February 29, known as a leap day in the Gregorian calendar, is a date that occurs in most years that are evenly  divisible by 4, such as 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. Years that are evenly divisible by 100 do not contain a leap day, with the exception of years that are evenly divisible by 400, which do contain a leap day; thus 1900 did not contain a leap day while 2000 did. Years containing a leap day are called leap years. February 29 is the 60th day of the Gregorian calendar in such a year, with 306 days remaining until the end of that year.

Anne Rice- New Novel " The Wolf Gift"

www.gothicteasociety.com

"The Wolf Gift" features a handsome young reporter in the Bay Area who finds himself at the center of the story when he's attacked by a werewolf, and turns into a wolf man himself. (He documents his new hairy look with his iPhone.) He's not your typical feral, rampaging beast: The lunar cycle has no effect on him, he learns to control his transformation and he only unleashes his beastly appetite on the truly wicked."

You can read more about the book and an interview with Ms. Rice HERE

The Woman in Black

www.gothicteasociety.com
I have been posting about this film on the GTS Facebook for quite a spell now. I thought to post the trailer here just in case it was not yet known to all. The house, sets and costumes are fabulous!

Our parents warned us to stay far away.
When the tide fills in, she comes out to play.

She searches the land, for a lost one.
Wailing and calling, until the dawning sun.

She enters the village, before the first frost.
Searching for children, to replace her long lost.

One by one, she takes them away,
Back to the marsh, Where forever they'll stay.

She'll never give up until she gets him back
No one can stop, the woman in black.

............

Have you seen her?
The Woman in Black
She once lost a boy
Now she's come back.

Our parents are worried
They make such a fuss.
For if she can't find him
She'll take one of us.

During afternoon tea,
There's a shift in the air
A bone-trembling chill,
That tells you she's there.

There are those who believe
The whole town is cursed.
But the house in the marsh
is by far the worst.

What she wants is unknown,
but she always comes back.
The specter of darkness,
The Woman in Black.

Daniel Radcliff is looking like quite the gentleman these days.

Interview with Gothic Tea Society mistress

04.02.2012

Gothic Tea Society has one of the best Gothic Blogs in the world. We obtained an interview with Wednesday Black (GTS Mistress) to understand what could be the reasons of the success.

Gothic.zp.ua: When you’ve understood Gothic is yours?
Wednesday Black (Gothic Tea Mistress): Since I was a little girl I have been attracted to darker aesthetics. Cemeteries, Skeletons, and other things that most people consider creepy.

Gothic.zp.ua: What was your reason to organize Gothic Tea Society?
Wednesday Black (Gothic Tea Mistress): I began The Gothic Tea Society as a blog of my own macabre interests. As the blog picked up followers, it became a place to bring together people in the Gothic community. The internet allows Goths from all over the world to share ideas, fashion, music, and much more. I enjoy being able to share with other Goths this way.

You can read the entire interview in English HERE and in Russian HERE

Many Thanks to Vasyl Cothurnatus for including the Gothic Tea Society on this lovely dark site.

Exploded Skull

www.gothicteasociety.com

Beauchene Skull, also known as an exploded skull, is a disarticulated human skull that has been carefully reassembled on a stand with jointed, movable parts that allow for the opening and studying of the skull as a whole or each piece individually.

Claude Beauchene the mid-1800s French anatomist  developed this method to display the anatomy of the head. Beauchene would meticulously clean a skull, separate its bones, and mount them on a stand designed to exhibit them at once individually and in context.
The concept of the exploded skull was first introduced byLeonardo da Vinci, seen in his anatomical drawings.
