WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY CHAIR?!

I dare you to watch this alone in a dark room.
DOUBLE dare you!

Scares the crap outta me every time.

Shall be lifted--nevermore!"

Wisconsin Death Trip

Based on the book by Michael Lesy, the film WISCONSIN DEATH TRIP is a fascinatingly creepy account of the disasters that befell one small town in Wisconsin during the late 19th century. Lesy discovered an archive of haunting black and white photographs taken by the resident portrait photographer in the town of Black River Falls dating from the 1890’s and joined them with items from the local newspaper from the same time period, along with records from the nearby Mendota Asylum for the Insane.
The town of Black River Falls seems stricken by some eerie malaise with the weekly news being dominated by bizarre tales of madness, eccentricity and violence amongst the local population.

The film unfolds over four seasons. Mary Sweeney is a cocaine snorting school mistress with a compulsion to run amok and smash windows. Another eccentric is Pauline L'Allemand, a mildly famous opera singer who gets washed up in the town with no money and ends up going more and more insane. A thirteen year old boy murders an old man for kicks and engages in sporadic gun battles with a pursuing posse. All the while, buildings are being torched by a bored teenage girl, a diphtheria epidemic devastates the town’s infant population and all sorts of strange suicides are being reported in great detail.
Secret: My favorite was the window smasher- I love the sound of breaking glass.

The Monster Mash

"Monster Mash" is a 1962 novelty song and the best-known song by Bobby "Boris" Pickett. The song was released as a single on Gary S. Paxton's Garpax Records label in October 1962 along with a full-length LP calledThe Original Monster Mash, which contained several other monster-themed tunes. The "Monster Mash" single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 20 of that year, just in time for Halloween. It has been a perennial holiday favorite ever since.

The Red Garter

in 1897, The Red Garter was a saloon and bordello in Williams, Arizona. Now, It is a bed & breakfast. It is famous for the restored victorian decor, the bakery downstairs and of course - ghost stories.

One of their featured ghost stories is the smiling ghost woman in a picture that the owner, John Holst, shows guests. No one else in the photo has a smile. Even the stranger, this woman with the coquettish grin, casts no reflection in the mirror she stand in front of. Is this woman just in the background? Or is she a playful ghost that just wanted to look good for her picture?

While most guests report having a good night's sleep, some say they felt the bed shake, heard someone going up and down the stairs, or felt something/someone touching their arms.

My parents, sister and I stayed here during a family vacation some years ago. We ended up leaving a day early because no one could sleep with all the activity there. the 4 of us definitely had some experiences.

Some Cake With Your Tea?

Vintage Halloween

Pumpkinhead

Keep away from Pumpkinhead,
Unless you're tired of living,
His enemies are mostly dead,
He's mean and unforgiving,
Laugh at him and you're undone,
But in some dreadful fashion,
Vengeance, he considers fun,
And plans it with a passion,
Time will not erase or blot,
A plot that he has brewing,
It's when you think that he's forgot,
He'll conjure your undoing,
Bolted doors and windows barred,
Guard dogs prowling in the yard,
Won't protect you in your bed,
Nothing will, from Pumpkinhead.

October Dreams

OCTOBER DREAMS - A Celebration of Halloween

This 2002 anthology not only features Halloween inspired short stories by such masters of horror as Ray Bradbury, Poppy Z. Brite, Peter Straub and Caitlin R. Kiernan, it also features each author's favorite or most influential memory of their own personal Halloween's gone by.

This is a must-have item for Halloween worshippers. It's out of print and used copies tend to be a bit on the pricey side, but amazon offers a free "Look Inside" this fabulous book.

Personal favorite story: "A Redress for Andromeda" by Caitlin R. Kiernan, in which Halloween in a Jack-O-Lantern lit seaside home turns into a hideous Lovecraftian ritual for an innocent girl.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

This cemetery is the forever home of many notable persons from the last 100 years of Hollywood. It was founded in 1899 on 100 acres as Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery. Unfortunately, by the latter part of the 20th century it had become run down. The Forever enterprise purchased the now 62-acre property in 1998 , restored, refurbished and renamed it.

I first went to this cemetery when I was in high school with my mom and my sister. Weekend adventures with my mom commonly included trips to cemeteries, psychic eye, bookstores, historical places and cultural events. ( I am sure many of you are surprised! :P) Some of my earliest memories are playing at West
wood Memorial Park by the wall crypt of Marilyn Monroe.

That particular day we were just looking around. One area of particular interest was the main mausoleum on the right of the park. When walking down the first corridor on the left, you get the feeling that it goes on forever. The farther in you get, you feel like you have walked into some sort of portal. I have taken pictures in there and by the time I got in the car, i had 10 or 15 shots of pure black nothing.

One of Hollywood Forever's most famous resident's - Rudolph Valentino - is involved in the park's most well known ghost stories: The Lady in Black. The Lady in Black is known to be seen walking into the mausoleum at night, every night. She brings him exactly 2 long stemmed roses. There are also reports of a near by statue of an angel appearing to cry and the smell of a woman's perfume appearing even if nobody else is around. Valentino's crypt is in the mausoleum with the strange corridor.

Could it just be a dedicated fan? An urban legend? If
you're local, check it out. Maybe you will see the Lady in Black bringing 2 long stemmed roses to The Sheik.
